Guiding Your Pet to Health and Happiness

At Family Pet Clinic, we’re committed to providing compassionate care for your pets throughout every stage of life. Our goal is to help them enjoy their golden years with comfort and health. We recognize the special needs of senior pets and are here to offer tailored care, support, and guidance to ensure they age gracefully. Trust us to be there for your furry companions as they grow older.

Caring for Your Senior Pet

As pets age, they may experience the same aches and pains as humans, becoming more prone to illness and injury. To ensure your senior pet remains healthy, we recommend scheduling a check-up every six months for closer monitoring of their well-being.

Many health issues in elderly pets develop gradually and can be difficult to detect. To help identify and track any age-related conditions, our medical team recommends a few essential tests for your senior companion.

Common tests recommended for senior pets include:
  • Bloodwork helps us identify general conditions such as infection and anemia. For senior pets, it can also detect diabetes, liver disease, kidney disease, and more.
  • Urinalysis detects urinary tract infections, diabetes, liver disease, and provides an overall snapshot of your pet’s health.
  • X-rays help detect conditions like cancer and arthritis, common in aging pets.
  • Glaucoma screening tests for glaucoma, a condition that can cause blindness, especially in senior pets.
Watch for any gradual or sudden changes in your pet’s activity levels and be sure to discuss any concerns with your veterinarian.
